The quickest way to waste an evening chasing the Goblin's Retreat in Diablo 4 Season 15 is to run Nightmare Dungeons without setting up your War Plans first. Your build matters, and useful D4 items can support it, but the real priority is creating more Treasure Goblin encounters. Start with Greed is Good, which gives defeated goblins a chance to open the Curious Coin portal. It doesn't promise entry. You're building more opportunities for that rare roll, not unlocking a doorway on demand. That's the distinction worth keeping in mind before committing to a long session.

Build around goblin encounters

Next, connect Altar of Avarice with Horadric Hunter. The first replaces ordinary Horadric Altars with Goblin Altars, so activating one brings out Treasure Goblins rather than a mixed encounter. The second reveals another altar after you've defeated 25 Elite enemies. Together, they give your runs a clear rhythm: find Elites, clear them, activate the next altar, then finish the goblin pack. Don't build solely around a big damage number. You want to move comfortably between fights and finish packs without lengthy pauses. More encounters mean more chances for Greed is Good to produce the portal.

Make shrine stops count

Nemesis Bracers fit this approach because activating a shrine brings in an Elite pack. That makes shrine-heavy routes and Escalation Nightmare Dungeons useful places to pursue the 25-Elite target. Mephisto's Evil Power changes the pacing further by modifying Horadric Hunter: each Elite kill gets a chance to reveal an altar immediately. You aren't always waiting for the full counter anymore. Still, neither effect makes every encounter pay out. Keep moving when nothing appears, and treat each extra altar as another opportunity. The aim is a steady flow of goblin packs, not standing around expecting one kill to settle everything.

Slow down inside the portal

Once the Curious Coin portal appears, the routine changes. The Path of the Coin rewards a careful sweep rather than another rush toward the next fight. Resplendent Chests line the approach, holding gold, gem fragments, crafting materials, splinters, and equipment. Some aren't marked on the minimap, so check the actual corridor instead of watching icons alone. It's easy to miss a chest when you're eager to reach the boss. Open what you find, collect what matters to your character, and then move into The Grand Hoard.

Stay for the chest encounter

Aurox waits in The Grand Hoard with familiar Avarice-style attacks and enough health to make the fight take a while. Players browsing cheap D4 items for build upgrades should remember that the reward sequence continues after he falls. Collect his drops, then destroy the large chest in the arena's center to release another wave of Treasure Goblins. Clear those too. Treasure Breach Nightmare Dungeon Sigils are among the rewards worth watching for, giving you another reason to finish the room rather than leave after the boss.
